Bail For 24 Persons in Remand Over Hambantota Private Land Accusation Clash
A protest campaign was organized on 6th January 2017 against acquisition of private land for an industrial zone in which China will have a major stake. This protest was backed by Joint Opposition. In ensuing clash,at least 21 people, including three police officers, were injured. In this instance protestors were met by government supporters and ended up in clash. Arrested suspects have been granted bail by the Hambantota Magistrate’s Court today(27). The suspects were released on three personal bails of Rs.500,000 each after being produced before Magistrate Manjula Karunaratne.
