AG’s Letter on Central Bank Bond Issue Tabled in Parliament

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today  informed the Parliament that he tabled the letter from the Attorney General regarding the COPE report on the Central Bank of Sri Lanka  Treasury bond issue.  The COPE report was forwarded to the Attorney General on 25th  January 2017.
The special COPE report was presented to the Parliament by the Chairman of the Committee On Public Enterprises MP Sunil Handunnetti on 28th October 2016. The 55-page COPE report recommended that former Governor of the Central Bank Arjuna Mahendran should be held directly responsible in connection with  the bond transaction and that legal action should be taken against him and responsible individuals. The report also observed financial irregularities in the Central Bank bond issue and recommended to recover the losses incurred from those involved.
