World Market Price Increase Force CAA to Remove Control Price on White Sugar

On the 27th  January 2017, the maximum retail  price of  1kg  white sugar was fixed at Rs. 93 under the Consumer Affairs Authority act.
Investigations made by the Consumer Affairs Authority revealed the fact that  the stocks were constantly sold above the maximum retail price  due to the world price of white sugar increasing.
They added that if the imports of white sugar were restricted, the country is likely to face severe shortages of white sugar.
Hence a decision has been made to abolish the control price on white sugar.
