Under Existing Archaic Abortion laws, Raped Child or Woman Has no Option Except to Give Birth…. Bimal

While Speaking in Parliament yesterday, JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake  said, according to the present law, if a child is impregnated after being raped, or if woman is raped they do not have any option other than to give birth to a child. The whole country is under the belief that women have no choice in the matter.

Srilankan laws in relation to abortions are outdated and need to be changed  for humanitarian reasons and social conditions.

 He further stated a woman’s body cannot be rented out according to the whims and fancies of others. Hence, he stressed  the need  to change archaic abortion laws of Srilanka according to  the present day requirement.
