Mullaitivu District Court Refused Interim Injunction Against Kepapilavu Peoples Struggle

Refugees who were chased out from their native place of living are demanding returning of their lands for a decent living. People have put temporally shelters and carry on Sathyagraha for the last 16 days. On Wednesday (15th )Mulliawala police sought an interim injunction against this struggle. When this matter was taken up for inquiry Mulliawala police said, as the struggle is carried out in front of the Mullaitivu army camp, it obstructs free military transport activities. Further, it obstructs army training and exercises. In response to the complaint lodged  by the Mullaitivu Army Camp Chief , interim injunction is sought under section 1 of law No 106, police told the court.
Lawyers appearing for the Kepapilavu people argued and quoted the Jaffna High Court’s verdict that no restriction should be imposed on a struggle carried out in a democratic manner. People who lived  there for generations were asking the release of their lands. There is justification in their requests. Further, people were resettled 25 meters away from the army camp. It is in these areas they put up temporary shelters and carry out their struggle. Hence, police argument did not hold waters, said lawyers. Having considers submission made by both parties,  Mullaitivu District Judge S.M.Samsudeen has refused to issue interim order and ordered army and police not to obstruct the democratic struggle carried out by the people.
