The Joint Opposition said, that island wide protests will be launched opposing the lapse of a year since the delay in the conduct of the Local Government Election. Parliamentarian Vasudeva Nanayakkara said, we expect around 1,000 people to rally together for the protest in Kuruwita led by local government representatives.
He said, that the Joint Opposition demands the government to ensure the people’s right to vote. They plan to voice their displeasure and concerns surrounding the delay in conducting the Local Government election, during the rally.
