Govt Pays 140 m Monthly Rent to Ministry Buildings

JVP MP Nalinda Jayatissa has raised a question regarding monthly  rent  paid by the  state to 33 buildings,  where ministries are located. In response Chief Government Whip Gayantha Karunatilake has informed the Parliament yesterday,  that the government pays nearly Rs 140 million monthly as rent for the offices where ministries are located.
Accordingly Rs 24 million is being paid for the premises of the ministry of agriculture while Rs. 14 million is being paid for the premises where the ministry of childcare and women’s affairs is located , Rs 11 million for the premises of special empowerment ministry and Rs. 11.3 million is being paid for the ministry of Road Development premises. He further informed the house that some ministries including the ministry of foreign affairs, public administration, National Policies and Economic Affairs and ministry Foreign Employment have rented more than two office buildings to carry out their tasks .
