What Happened to Plundered Rs 50,000 Million in Dubai Account?

This is the thousand dollar question asked by opposition politicians and the Public from the good Governance Government. Government politicians on stages alleged that Rajapakshas have plundered the wealth of Srilanka and invested in foreign banks. They specifically mentioned that Rs 50,000 million was invested in Dubai bank and they knew how to bring it to Srilanka. But they failed in the last two years either to bring the money or to prosecute the culprits, which gave strength to Joint opposition.
Minister of Health, Rajitha Senaratne has unfolded the mystery yesterday. He said that Government is facing obstacles in securing Rs 58,500 million invested by Rajapakshe accomplices in Dubai bank. There is a procedure to be followed by a country in seeking ill earned black money deposited in foreign banks to convert it into white money. Only a Head of State can make a written request to another Head of State to remit ill earned or stolen money from a state deposited in their Banks. Request letter should be attached with the court verdict to prove that this money was ill earned or stolen from the State. What happened in our case is Srilankan President has issued a letter to the Head of Dubai State and handed it over to the designated officials, who were assigned with the task. Designated officials through over enthusiasm obtained the services of a Law Firm and approached the Dubai State, which has point blank refused to entertain the request in the absence of prosecution of depositors concerned in Srilanka Courts. They thought that they can get the money back without much difficulty and get the credit from the President. They are the officers who have blundered in this case. Now the Government is compelled to find alternate ways and means of obtaining it from Dubai Bank. Assistance of American Federal Bank and a few other influential authorities are approached to bring back Dubai money to the country. American Federal Bank expressed their willingness to help us in this connection. Rajitha concluded.
