Bail Application Under Exceptional Circumstances For Wimal

MP Wimal Weerawansa was accused of misusing 40 government vehicles and thereby incurring a loss of Rs. 90 million to the State. He was arrested and in remand. Two bail applications  submitted in the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s court and in Colombo High Court  were rejected. Wimal Weerawansa has  started a fasting in Magazine prison. Followed by this, his daughter too followed the suit and refused  to take food. Later on  she was admitted to the hospital.

Defence Counsel appearing  for  Wimal Weerawansa has   submitted a new bail application in Colombo Fort Magistrate’s court today.

This application was  made  under  exceptional circumstances  stating that Wimal’s daughter was admitted to hospital due to bad health condition.

Considering the bail request Colombo Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne has  fixed April 3 to deliver a decision on the request.
