Railway Engine Drivers Poised to Strike From Midnight Today

Locomotive Operating Engineers’ Union Secretary Indika Dodamgoda told  news media that although Minister Siripala de Silva tried to take action regarding their problems, so far the problems had not been resolved.
On January 23rd originally drivers planned to resort to a trade union action of working to rule, followed by an opportunity  for a discussion given by the subject Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva it was  suspended.
Subsequently Minister  referred this matter to the cabinet and the cabinet decided  to provide solutions to the salary anomalies within two months.
However the Union said that so far no solutions have been provided.
Hence,  Locomotive Operating Engineers’ Union said,  that their drivers will launch  a 24-hour token strike from midnight Tuesday .
