No Salary Increase for MPs

There were media report  that a move was underway by the government to increase the salaries of MPs under the pretext of increasing the salaries of Supreme Court and Appeal Court Judges.

Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe and State Minister of Highways Dilan Perera  have dismissed this news  as a  canard.

Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe  said “Salaries of Judges are increased under Section 108(1) of the Constitution whereas salaries of MPs are increased under Section 68(1) of the Constitution. Maybe the journalists  have confused   and  filed  this wrong news.
