The Ministry of Health declared , that the people affected by the Meethotamulla disaster are at risk of experiencing long term and short term health hazards . The Chairman of the Public Health inspectors Union in Sri Lanka, Upul Rohana stated, that the affected people are at risk of contracting short term diseases such as diseases of the skin and diarrhea.
He further added that infections around genitalia, dengue and Leptospirosis (rat fever), are at a high risk of spreading as well. Rohana further any agricultural fresh produce within a five kilometer radius from the disaster site should not be allowed to sell it to the public.
