At a special meeting held together with the Prime Minister and other high-ranking officials with President Maithripala Sirisena, he directed officers concerned to clear illegal settlements at Meethotamulla area. Some of them won’t move out but they have to be moved from there, President insisted. He took a firm stand that all illegal settlements must be removed.
His comments come in the wake of the Meethotamulla tragedy in which 32 people lost their lives and several more were injured.
