Residents of the Meethotamulla area was demarcated as a danger zone by the Government . Hence, they were asked to leave danger zone and provided temporary shelter in two paddy warehouses and in flats until permanent houses are built and granted to them. School will begin soon for their children. How can they take them to school and take them for exams from these temporary locations.
Hence, they refuse to move out claiming their houses were not illegal dwellings and that the government was just trying to get them to move. Meethotamulla residents see this as a sinister move by the Government to shift them to flats and deprive them of their lands.
