JO Complained to the EC Regarding Delays in Holding LG  Election

The Joint Opposition has complained to the Elections Commission regarding the continued delays in holding the local government election.

MP Udaya Gammanpila and other representatives of the Pivituru Hela Urumaya today reported to the Elections Commission to submit causes to recognise the group as an official political party.

He  said he complained to the commission saying the government has used the Local Government Act and amendments to it as an excuse to postpone the election.

He said the Pivituru Hela Urumaya was prepared to introduce the Local Government Act as a private legislation in Parliament and to create the legal background necessary to hold the election.
