Counter Terrorism Bill Replaces PTA

The UNHRC resolution on  Srilanka included  a proposal  to  remove Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA). The European Union too  had requested  the Government  to act  and take a decision on this  matter  to consider  granting GSP+ facility to Srilanka.

The government  in turn had given an undertaking to replace the PTA   with fresh legislation on countering terrorism in conformity with international standards.

The Srilanka  Government  has accelerated enacting  a bill called Counter Terrorism Bill  to replace Prevention of Terrorism Act(PTA) and  cabinet approval  said to have been  obtained  today (26).
