Drastic Drop in Production of Tea and Rubber in Last 50 years
According to Central Bank annual report for the year 2016, tea production and rubber production has fallen to 11% and 10.7% respectively. While tea production in 2015 was 328.8 million kilogram, comparative 2015 production has taken to 292.6 million. Identified reasons for the drop in tea production was due drought , weather change in mid of 2016, drop in income of oil producing countries which imports Srilankan tea.
Rubber production in 2016 from has fallen to 79.1 million Kilogram, which is 10.7% drop.
Both the tea and rubber recovered the lowest production in the above 50 years.
