Torrential Rain Affects Several Areas Costing Several Lives     

Due to heavy rainfall many areas in the country have been affected by floods. The prevalent rains have had a heavy impact on the day today live of the people in the Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces.

The Disaster Management Center (DMC) has advised people in Kelani-Ganga related Divisional Secretariat areas in the Kolonnawa, Biyagama, Kelaniya, Kaduwela, Dompe, Hanwella, Padukka and Avissawella to take precautionary measures to face a major flood situation.

Army, Navy and Air Force have been deployed in rescue operation in Galle, Kalutara, Matara and Hambantota districts utilizing special boats and helicopters.

Rana area on Tangalle – Kataragama main road, Tangalle – Weeraaketiya road and Tangalle – Tissa road are submerged under flood water.

Due to flood 9 people died in  Kalutara district. 3 women had died due to the collapse of a heap of earth in Sapugasgantha and Devinuwara areas.
