Closure of Schools at the Discretion of Principals

The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said yesterday that the decision to close schools in areas affected by the floods will be at the discretion of school principals.

In the meantime , the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Education Ministry stated that all schools in the Ratnapura and Nivitigala education zones are closed today. This precautionary decision was taken because of the prevalent crisis situation in the area.

All schools in the Ratnapura, Kuruwita, Eheliyagoda, Kiriella, Pelmadulla, Nivitigala, Kalawana, Arigama and Kahawatte Divisions will also remain closed until further notice. Principals are authorized to decide on opening of schools too.
