Increased Tax on Sugar Pushed Bakery Product Prices up…

Followed by the announcement made by the Ministry of Finance stating that the special commodity tax which was at Rs 13 per kilo had been increased to  Rs 23 , traders and bakers  have increase prices of  sugar and bakery products.
The All Ceylon Bakery Owner’s Association Chairman, N.K. Jayawardena  said,  that if the tax on sugar continues to be imposed, they are compelled to increase the prices of bakery products.
The special commodity tax imposed on imported sugar was increased by 10 rupees on the 6th of this month.
The Ministry noted that the tax on imported sugar was increased in this manner, to encourage local sugar manufacturers.
