SL’s GSP+ Implementation Not Under EU supervision – Mangala

Issuing a statement to counter allegations made by former President and Kurunegala District MP Mahinda Rajapaksa, Minister of Finance Mangala Samaraweera said, implementation of the Generalized System of Preferences Plus (GSP+) doesn’t bring Srilanka under the supervision of the European Union. This is simply absurd.

By committing to a number of universal human rights principles, we do nothing that was not already recommended by Lankan’s,  who came before the LLRC to give their input and views.”

Minister Samaraweera noted protecting every citizen from alleged torture is not an alien imposition, but a sovereign decision for a nation, towards its own citizens, inspired by the most sacred human values and principles.
