Ex-Parliamentarian Ali Zahir Moulana Leads SLMC in Batticaloa

 

Former Parliamentarian Ali Zahir Moulana has been assigned as the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) team leader in Batticaloa District.

Mr. Moulana handed over SLMC nominations at Batticaloa this morning.

He was a United National Party (UNP) Member of Parliament August 1994 until his resignation on June 23, 2004. He played a major role in bringing Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan, alias Karuna Amman, to Colombo and establishing a stable country under Rajapakse regime.

In March 2011 Moulana was elected as Chairman of Eravur Urban Council. He was appointed as a member of Eastern Provincial Council in place of Ameer Ali who resigned his post. On 6th February 2015, he took oath before Governor of Eastern Province Austin Fernando.
