To Prevent the Spread of Dengue Devote 1 Hour Per Week to Clean Up

62,857 dengue cases have been reported so far this year, which is the highest number of cases ever reported within a year. This led to the appointment of a Presidential Task Force on Dengue. Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Dengue in collaboration with the Ministry of Health have set up a program. In this programme dedicating one hour per week to clean up premises of all private residences, public institutions, and private company’s is made compulsory. The program, aimed at reducing breeding sites for dengue mosquito,  will be implemented from 9.30 to 10.30 a.m. on every Friday. Health officers and Tri- Forces personnel are detailed to carry out inspections .
On a directive from  President Maithripala Sirisena and Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne a three month Dengue prevention program is already been in progress.
Meanwhile Minister Rajitha Senaratne said to have requested the President to declare it a disaster situation to manage garbage dumping, which has been a main cause for spread of dengue.
