Train Fares to be Increased?

Assistant Superintendent of Railway (Commerce) said that train fares were not revised after the year 2008. But changes were made in the price of fuel on several occasions. Bus fares were revised according to it. However train fares remains the same as from the year 2008. In the year 2015 a proposal to increase the train fares by 20 % was made by the Railway Department and forwarded to the transport ministry, which in turn sent to the Finance Ministry. But no revision was made in train fares. Considering the fuel prices, it is high time to do upward revision of train fares, he said. As bus fares are to be increased with effect from 1 st July 2017, it is more appropriate to increase the train fares too. A proposal to increase the train fares has been formulated and sent to the Transport Ministry for onward transmission with their recommendation to the Finance Ministry, he concluded.

Hence, public can expect increase in train fares soon or later?
