Urgent Steps to Attend Main Shortcomings of Hospitals in North, East & North Western Provinces.
Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Badiutheen along with VIPs of the Ceylon Makkal Congress Party met the Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne at “Suwasiripaya” in the Ministry of Health and discussed main shortcomings faced by hospitals in North, East and North Western Provinces. In response Minister Rajitha assured Minister Rishad to attend all shortcomings brought to his notice promptly, fulfill the personnel resource requirement of hospitals coming under three provinces and directed the high ranking Ministry Officers.
Rishad has pointed out at this high level meeting about the shortcomings observed in Puttalam,Sammanthurai, Kurunegala,Mannar , Silavathurai and Kinniya Thopur hospitals. He described the sufferings of the War, Tsunami and flood affected people and frequent deaths that occurred due to lack of medical facilities.
Proposals made to attend shortcomings were accepted by the Health Minister, which in turn submitted to relevant officers to attend to it. Minister Rajitha has ordered to attend to it on an accelerated basis.
He has not failed to bring to the notice of the Health Minister about the suspended 2 storied building meant for Nurses in the Puttalam base hospital and said 30 million allocated for it. Further, for Doctors Quarters consisting 36 rooms worth of 101 million rupees ,allocation of Rs 40 million was made. In addition for medical equipment and instruments, which includes CT Scan and Dialysis Rs 50 million was allocated along with the approval to provide a 500KV Generator to the Puttalam hospital.
Minister Rajitha has directed heath authorities to provide a generator immediately to Puttalam hospital.
When Minister Rishad pointed out that vacancies for 80 nurses not filled, Rajitha , it was decided to transfer 50 from excess nurses in Kurunegala to Puttalam and balance vacancies to be filled through other procedures. Attention was given to vacant post of doctors, those doctors who have completed their internship are to be posted to Puttalam hospital. Finally Rajitha assigned the task of constructing a hospital for Kalpitty at a cost of Rs150 million to Regional Director Fareed. Further, it was decided to send specialists doctors to Kalpity hospital once in a week.
Rishad has accepted the proposal made to upgrade Sammanthurai hospital with the help of foreign aid. He took steps to bring it under the central government and took stepsto bring in Japanese aid. Shortcomings observed in Irakamam and Sammanthurai hospitals have also been brought to the notice of Rajitha, who promised to look into it and thanked Rishad for taking keen interest in improving health facilities.
