Rishad Announces Unlimited Import of Rice At Rs 5 Tax Per Kilo.

In a press conference held yesterday (29), Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Badiutheen announced, that import of unlimited rice by private sector is permitted to meet shortage of rice in the market. Tax of Rs 5 per kilo will be imposed. All are allowed to import and sell rice at maximum retail price fixed by the government.

As per decision taken by the Government’s Cost of Living  Committee, tenders have been called to import  one hundred thousand  (100,000 ) tons of rice. All varieties of rice imported will be subjected to examination  by the customs and the Medical Research Institute of Borella, he concluded.
