The Joint Opposition (JO) informed the Government yesterday that it would support the Government in making the necessary amendments to the Local Government Elections Bill, if the legislation was presented to Parliament within the week.
Leader of the Joint Opposition, Dinesh Gunawardana, was responding to a statement made by the
Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Faiszer Musthapha speaking in Parliamen said thus “ I have done my part as the minister concerned with local government elections and now it is up to Parliament to pass the necessary amendments to the Local Government Elections Act so that the elections could be held.”
In response Dinesh Gunawardana called on the government to present the LG bill amendments within this week, so that they can support the Government to get it approved and hold the election as early as possible.
