Move to Amend the Public Security Ordinance Enabling Inspection of Abandoned Houses

A joint  cabinet proposal was  put forward by Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faiszer Musthapha and Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayake  to amend the Public Security Ordinance for the inspection of abandoned houses and properties, which are closed down or locked up in search of mosquito breeding sites and to take legal action against the owners following such detection.
The proposal also included  the following steps:
1. Installation of CCTV cameras in public areas, where garbage is dumped.
2.Detail officials to monitor these footage via mobile phones.
3. Make it mandatory for construction sites in Colombo and surrounding areas to display name boards of the legal owner, contractor and other relevant information.
4.Filing legal action against the individuals who are responsible for allowing the spread of dengue mosquitoes at schools, state institutions and other establishments.
The cabinet  today approved above proposals.
