US Report on Terrorism States Srilanka is on Alert Regarding ISIS
The United State has released its’ report on terrorism in foreign countries in the year 2016. It quoted the statement made by the former Defence Secretary, Karunasena Hettiarachchi in January 2017 to the effect that although 36 persons from Srilanka had gone to Syria to join the ISIS, physical presence of ISIS in Srilanka was ruled out.
Further, the report states that Anti terrorism training provided to Srilanka was limited in the year 2016. However bilateral security between US and Srilanka was strengthened.
To protect international ship movement routes, a high level training was provided P-8 Coast Guard Aeroplane training. This training has strengthened Srilanka in nabbing cross border terrorists using Srilanka as a transit point to stage attack in foreign countries. o in collaboration with the Srilanka Air force.
Srilanka security forces concentrate on resurrection of the LTTE. This led the Govt. to adopt flexibility in nabbing Srilankans from joining ISS or other terrorist outfits in foreign countries.
In the meantime 32 members of few families have gone to Syria to join the ISS, Minister of Justice Wijedasa Rajapakshe disclosed in parliament in last November, which shocked the Muslims in Srilanka.
