GMOA Filed a Petition With the UNHRC ….

 The Government Medical Officers’ Association  yesterday filed a petition with the United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) regarding the alleged violation of human rights of undergraduates who protested against the South Asian Institution of Technology and Medicine (SAITM).
GMOA Secretary Dr.Haritha Aluthge said the Police has been brutally attacking students.
During their protests, intimidating students as well as parents, and most recently there was an attempt to kidnap the Convener of the Medical Faculty Student Active Committee (MFSAC) Ryan Jayalath, with the support of the Police.
A GMOA delegation was accompanied by Parent’s Union of Medical Faculty (PUMF) members. Vice President of the Union, Dr. Sunimal Jayakody, said they have evidence of students being attacked brutally and claimed that there are attempts to arrest several students who fought against the claimed illegality of SAITM and to remand them.
The Inter-University Students Federation (IUSF) also claimed that the Police had visited the homes of student leaders at night and told them that if the student leaders do not surrender to the Police, the parents would have to come to the Police to provide statements.
