To continue or to Abandon Uma Oya Project Depends on Norway Experts Report

The previous regime has started the Umaoya project without carrying out necessary survey and research on environment effects. Hence, when the project commenced, there were cracks on surrounding land surface and cracks on buildings were seen by the people of Bandarawala.
Consequent to this development people of that area started staging protest demonstrations. Apart from this, opposition politicians stood by the people and protested against the Uma  Oya  project.    This was reflected in parliament as well as outside parliament.
Hence, the government led by President Maithreepala Sirisena ordered to suspend the project and invited Norway experts familiarised with tank buildings to examine and report whether the project could be continued with minimum environmental issues or to abandon it if it is not advisable to continue it.
The Norway experts team has already arrived in Srilanka and carrying out research work in Uma Oya project.  Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, who visited the site recently said, that the future of the Uma Oya project depends in the hands of Norway experts.
