The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) headquarters announced that the party central working committee emergency meeting scheduled to be held tonight at the Foundation Institute has been cancelled.

A Headquarters’ spokesman stated that the meeting was cancelled on the orders of the President.

However, party deputy chairman and former Parliamentarian W.D.J. Seneviratne said that a party central working committee meeting has been called tonight.

He said that he did not know whether the meeting was cancelled on the orders of the President.

SLFP National Organizer Susil Premajayantha who arrived at the party headquarters a while ago said that the meeting would be held at 8 o’clock tonight as scheduled.

Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon requested to call a SLFP central working committee meeting during a media briefing held at his resident last night.

He made this request after the President made a special statement last night.

Meanwhile, UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha has called an emergency meeting of coalition leaders this afternoon at the SLFP headquarters.

Our correspondent stated that UPFA coalition leaders are arriving at the SLFP headquarters for the meeting.

MEP leader Dinesh Gunawardana who is already present at the meeting venue expressed his views to our news team.
