Over 450,000 mark Lailatul Qadr at Al Aqsa mosque

 

About 450,000 thousand Muslims travelled to Jerusalem’s Al  Aqsa mosque to observe the holy night of Lailatul Qadr as the Islamic month of Ramazan nears the end.

On Monday morning, Israeli forces had intensified police deployments around the Al Aqsa Mosque for the holy night.

The mosque, which is the third holiest site in Islam, was crowded with worshippers from all over Palestine as well as other countries.

Despite Israeli restrictions; Palestinians passing through occupied East Jerusalem checkpoints which only allowed men above 50 and women above 30 to enter east Jerusalem, Muslims flocked the old city to visit the mosque.

While some restrictions were eased by Israel at the beginning of Ramazan, and Palestinians from Gaza were allowed to travel to East Jerusalem via Beit Hanoun crossing, new restrictions were imposed amid fresh tensions between the Israeli soldiers and Palestinians.

Lailatul Qadr (The night of power) is the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and takes place toward the end of the month.

Recently 150,000 Iftar meals were also distributed by the Islamic Endowment Authority to the worshippers at the mosque.

Meanwhile the holy night of Al Qadr was also marked with fervor in Makkah’s Masjid al haram which was full with around 2 million Muslims from across Saudia Arabia and around the world who prayed Taraweeh on the 27th of Ramazan.
