UNP Working Committee Meets Under Sensational Circumstances Today
Seventeen Parliamentarians of the United National Party met party Leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and discussed with him about filing a No-Confidence Motion against the Minister of Justice Wijedasa Rajapaksa last week. Wijedasa Rajapaksa was accused of violating collective responsibility of the cabinet by expressing different views freely in public.
The other issue is that the Attorney General Department officials were double quick in collecting data with the view to prosecute Ravi Karunanayake Former Minister of Finance. But the same officials are alleged to have purposely delaying inquiries into corruption by the members of the previous United People’s Freedom Alliance led government among other concerns.
Under these sensational circumstances, the Working Committee of the United National Party is scheduled to meet today (17). Along with these issues, the working committee is expected to hold a special discussion on the future actions of the party.
The meeting will take place under the patronage of Party Leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
