Udayanga Weeratunga’s Request Rejected by Fort Magistrate Court
Udayanga Weeratunga served as the Srilanka Ambassador to Russia during Mahinda’s regime. He alleged to have involved in purchase of four MiG fighters at a cost of USD 2.462 million each as well as overhauling four existing SLAF MiG-27 aircraft. He initiated the agreement between the Srilankan Air Force and the supplier . FCID investigating purchasing of MiG fighters wanted to question Udayanga Weeratunga, but he is absconding inquiry. Hence, police has obtain the Court approval to seek the assistance of Interpol to arrest him and imposed travel ban .
Lawyer appearing on behalf of Udayanga Weeratunga has applied in the Fort Magistrate seeking to revoke the Interpol arrest warrant and to lift the travel ban.
Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne today rejected his request, stating that he should do is to surrender to the police or at the court instead of requesting the Court to revoke or withdraw the order given.
