PC Polls Likely to be Postponed

The Government had worked out a legislation to reform the electoral system of the Provincial Councils.

President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe chaired a late night meeting of the Government party leaders on Monday night and discussed the matter and decided to change the electoral system of the Provincial Councils. It will be a mix of the Proportional Representation System and the First Past the Post System (FPP).

Hence,  Provincial Council Elections may be delayed till the middle of the next year, sources said. However, that the elections for the Local Authorities would be conducted soon.
