20 th Amendment Passed in Western Provincial Council With Majority Votes.

During the debate on 20th amendment to the constitution in the Western Provincial Council, there were arguments and counter arguments between the governing party and the joint opposition yesterday (28). At one stage joint
opposition members attempted to drag the mace and disrupt the proceedings.
They walked towards the mace to grab it. On seeing this UNP members went and took mace under their custody. Hence, the Chairman has to adjourn the sittings for a short time. When it was reconvened mace was at its place, but
without certain parts broken in the commotion.
The Chairman regretted the way some senior members behaved in the Council. When the vote was called 51 members voted for it while 41 members voted against it, thus passing 20 th amendment to the constitution with majority vote.
