Power Interruption Due to Strike  Took one Live

A heart patient was take to the Hingurakgoda Hospital by his wife  at around 3.30am yesterday, in a three-wheeler, as he had complained of a heart pain.

As the Hingurakgoda Hospital was experiencing a power failure due to CEB strike and the generator at the Hingurakgoda Hospital was not functioning due to a technical failure, the in-house doctor had advised her to take Sunil Karunaratne to the Polonnaruwa General Hospital, which was 18km away, as he was not in a position to do relevant medical tests.

As she had no alternative, she had taken his husband in a three-wheeler to the Polonnaruwa Hospital and in the middle of their journey, the patient was transferred to a car, in an attempt to reach the hospital as quickly as possible.

However, 56-year-old Karunaratne was already dead by the time the vehicle reached the Polonnaruwa Hospital.

It is unfortunate that the heart patient M. G. Sunil Karunaratne died without any treatment in this incident.
