Chairman of Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya announced that the election of the three Provincial Councils could be conducted, if not for the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
According to him, nomination for Provincial Council of Sabragamuva, Eastern and North Central could be called on 2nd October and it could be accepted between 16th – 23rd , to enable election on 9th December 2017.
In the meantime, Supreme Court reported to have determined that to passed the 20th Amendment in the Parliament , two third majority and referendum is a must. Hence, the Government said to have decided to set a side the 20th Amendment .
If it so, Provincial Council Elections could be expected in December as announced by the Chairman of Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya.
