PC Elections Will be Held before March 2018- PM

Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Ranil Wickremesinghe said the government’s goal is to hold the three Provincial Council elections before the end of March. He further explained the Provincial Council Elections were delayed as a majority of MPs did not have confidence in the Act amended by the previous tenure of the United People’s Freedom Alliance led government.

He further said the government’s goal is to hold the three Provincial Council elections before the end of March adding that its primary goal was to hold all Provincial Council Elections on a single day through the 20th Constitutional Amendment.

Premier Wickremesinghe said it needs to be approved by Parliament adding that the party leaders can hold discussions pertaining to that later.

The Premier said however, the government has no intention of holding these elections after March.
