Geetha’s Appeal Against Removal From Parliament for Trial Today
Then silver screen popular actress Galle District UPFA MP Geetha Kumarasinghe was elected to parliament after contesting at the general election on 17th August 2016, representing the Galle District.
After she took oath as MP in Parliament, six Galle District registered voters filed a petition before the Court of Appeal challenging her parliamentary seat on the grounds of her dual citizenship.
The Court of Appeal after a trial declared that the UPFA MP Geetha Kumarasinghe was disqualified to be Member of Parliament as she was holding dual citizenship .
She petitioned against this decision in the Supreme Court, which granted interim injunction halting her removal in Parliament.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to consider the petition today (25).
