JO Demands Deportation of Rohingya Refugees From Srilanka

A group of Buddhist Monks and Buddhist radicals raided the house where Rohingya refugees were accommodated pending arrangement to send them to other foreign countries by the UNHCR. Police intervened and rescued 30 Rohingya refugees from threats to their lives created and took them under protection custody.
Following this incident ,the joint opposition in Parliament questioned the protection given to Rohingya refugees in Sri Lanka.Further they asked as to what action the Government was taking to deport the refugees.
In reply Justice Minister Thalatha Atukorale said, that there are international conventions Sri Lanka is obliged to follow. Hence, it will deal with the refugees by following those conventions.
