Rs. 9 Billion For Purchasing Electricity From the Private Sector

For the last 6 months the CEB has been purchasing electricity from the private sector .

The company concerned  has refused to provide the supply anymore. Hence, Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy was compelled to look for alternatives .

Under these circumstances,  the Deputy Minister, Ajith P. Perera said,  that the Ministry had sought Cabinet approval for a new mechanism to be adopted to purchase electricity.

The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy submitted a Cabinet paper seeking approval to purchase power from the private sector, as existing generation capacity is inadequate.

The Cabinet has approved Rs. 9 billion for purchase electricity to meet the rising demand.
