Clash Between Gota and Basil Aggravates?

During his recent visit to Jaffna to raise membership for Srilanka Podujana Peramuna  party backed by Joint Opposition, former Minister Basil Rajapaske in an attempt to appease the northern public, he declared that private land occupied  by the army should be released to legitimate owners without delay and acknowledged that certain members of the Army had violated human rights and committed war crimes.
Basil’s statement has created problem for him in the south, especially from the armed forces and the clergy. Apart from this, his own brother Gotabaya said to have rejected angrily the statement he made regarding the army. Gotabaya throughout maintained that the army did not violate human rights during the war period. Gotabaya said, that his brother’s statement has created far reaching problems for him.
But Basil said that he has not made such a statement in Jaffna during his recent visit to the North. As his statement was recorded in video and circulated among the media, his denial doesn’t hold water.
