Namal Rajapaksa Arrested & Remanded

MPs Namal Rajapaksa, DV Chanaka and Prasanna Ranaweera and the three others arrived at the Hambantota Police around 7 last night to record a statement following which they were arrested and produced before Court.

A total of 39 persons including the Parliamentarians and Provincial Councillors arrested last night have been arrested and remanded over the Hambantota unrest.

Namal Rajapaksa, DV Chanaka and Prasanna Ranaweera  were arrested last night over the unrest in Hambantota last Friday have been remanded.

The order was issued by Hambantota Magistrate Manjula Karunaratne.

Accordingly the three Parliamentarians and Provincial Councillors Upali Kodikara and Sampath Athukorala and former Provincial Councillor Major Ajith Prasanna were remanded till 16th of October.

The six are charged with illegal assembly, damaging state property, injuring police officers and obstructing their duties, and disregarding a Court injunction.
