Manufacturing Artificial Toddy Banned  in Srilanka.

Amendments to be made in Excise Ordinance Act of Srilanka to ban on manufacturing of artificial toddy and other illegal breweries. As per excise ordinance, one has to obtain a license, if he wishes to tap toddy from a tree.
As per amendments made to Excise Ordinance Act, there is no need to obtain a license to tap toddy. Hence, difficulty is experienced in valuing the standard of toddy used for manufacturing Vinegar and bottling toddy. Further, it opened room for production of artificial toddy and other illegal breweries.
Considering above facts, Minister of Finance and Media, Mangala Samaraweera has submitted documents seeking permission of the cabinet to move amendments to the Excise Ordinance Act and publish it in the Government Gazette. The cabinet in turn has approved it.
