Mersal Movie Review: The Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Kajal Aggarwal Starrer Is the Perfect Diwali Gift

After facing several issues that posed a challenge to its theatrical release, Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited film Mersal will open in theaters on Wednesday, coinciding with the Deepavali celebrations. The release of the film was hinging on the decision of The Animal Welfare Board of India, which was upset with the makers for allegedly not following the due procedure to use animals in the shoot. According to reports, the AWBI refused to issue the no-objection certificate to Mersal, which had stalled the certification of the film at the censor board. On Monday, following an emergency meeting, the AWBI decided to give the NOC to the film. It would have been a major upset for the fans if the filmmakers were forced to postponed Mersal release date due to this issue. Now that the release is confirmed, here are five reasons as to why you shouldn’t give this film a miss.
  • Vijay will be playing a triple role in Mersal, which is said to deal with corruption in India’s medical industry. According to reports, he plays a doctor, magician and a village leader.
  • It will be, indeed, interesting to see how convincingly Vijay has played three different roles in the same film. He has also performed the stunts and magic tricks in the film without using body doubles.
  • S J Suryah, who had impressed the audience by playing a psychopathic serial killer in Spyder, has played the main antagonist in Mersal too. Aren’t you curious to see what kind of villainy he will bring to the big screen with Mersal?
  • Mersal has a huge star cast and crew. Director Atlee has pulled off a casting coup of sorts for his second consecutive project with Vijay in the lead role. It stars Nithya Menen, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Kajal Aggarwal, Vadivel and Kovai Sarala among others.
  • Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman has composed the music for the film. Aalaporan Tamizhan has already become a big hit and Rahman seems to have also composed a very exciting background score for Vijay’s Mersal.
