6 Weeks Extension Granted to Bond Commission

Since, Central Bank Bond issue had created wide spread criticism and opposition as well as public interested civil organizations demanded a Presidential Commission, the President Maithripala Sirisena had appointed the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate and report on the Central Bank bond issue on January 27, 2017.
The Commission is chaired by Supreme Court Judge, Justice K.T. Chithrasiri and comprised of two other members, namely, Supreme Court Judge P.S. Jayawardena and Rtd. Deputy Auditor General K. Velupillai Kandasamy. On completing recording of evidence from 63 witnesses in 120 days on October 17, the Bond Commission had requested the President to extend its term to enable them to finalize and submit the report.
In response, the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate and report on the Central Bank bond issue has been granted 6 weeks time to complete and submit the report.
