Prohibit Eating Beef on Mondays

Four Buddhist organizations, Protection of Animal Rights along with other organisations have requested the Buddhists to avoid eating beef in the month of May, which is the Vesak month.
In a press conference called yesterday (26), leaders of Anakarika Dharmapala Humanitarian Organization,Voice of Dharma for Animals, Bodhi Raja organization, Non violence youth Movement have jointly made this request to avoid eating beef. To start with Buddhists are requested to consume only vegetables during Vesak. They said that this will be the first step to convert Srilanka into anon beef eating nation. Leader of the Voice of Dharma for Animals, Ven.Peradeniya Sathinthiriya Thera said, in the year 2013, 200,000 cattle slaughtered for beef. But in the year 2016, it had been reduced to 170,000. More cattle slaughtered in Ampara and Batticaloe districts.The World Health Organization said that eating of red beef may be one factor for cancer. During Buddha Jeyanthi, we obtained over 1 million signatures and appealed against the slaughter. When we showed videos how animals suffer during slaughter, even Muslim and Catholic clergies signed the petition.
