Hunger Strike Staged by Jaffna Uni Students Continues

Three Tamil political prisoners undertook protest campaign within the prison demanding that their cases be heard in the High Court of Vavuniya instead of High Court of Anuradhapura. Their struggle continues over 30 days. As their demand was not fulfilled so far, the Jaffna University students carried out several protest demonstrations in support of three prisoners in Anuradhapura prison and other Tamil political prisoners languishing in other prisons. Failing to achieve anything, they went on hunger strike, which continues for the 4 th day today.
As a result academic activities of Arts, Science and Commerce of the University are badly affected. The University students have invited Tamil Members of Parliament and Provincial Council members to come forward for an interaction to take constructive steps towards the release of all Tamil political prisoners. They announced that the interaction will take place tomorrow (3) at 2pm in the Jaffna University.
